Dave, crab fisherman

The last fisherman of Hope Cove

For centuries Hope Cove was a working fishing village, with boats drawn up on the beach and pots stacked along the sea wall. One by one the fishermen have gone. Dave is the last full-time working crab fisherman living in the village, and he still puts to sea from the cove for crab and lobster.

Watch: The Last Fisherman

A short documentary by Nick Adams following Dave and Sue, and their efforts to keep the village's fishing heritage alive.

A working boat, a working family

Kittiwake is a fishing family's home, and the sea still sets the rhythm of the household. Dave works his pots in the waters around Bolt Tail, as Hope Cove fishermen have for generations, while Sue keeps alive the craft of weaving the willow pots that every boat here once carried.
